Teams Troubleshooting
Issue
Teams is having issues such as messages not being received, calls are not coming through, not being able to connect to the Teams application, or you encounter any issue with Teams in general.
Solutions
To resolve most Microsoft Teams issues, you can try either signing-out and signing back into Teams, quitting and re-launching the Teams application, or uninstalling and re-installing Teams.
Signing out and signing back into Teams
There are a couple of ways to sign out of Teams:
-
Click on your Teams profile icon on the top-right of the main Teams window then click on 'Sign out'.
-
Right-click on the Teams icon in the bottom-right area your taskbar then click on 'Sign out'.
- After signing out using either of the above methods, Teams should prompt you to re-sign in again by selecting an account or by entering in your login credentials.
Restarting the Microsoft Teams Application
If you are still having Teams issues after signing out and signing back in, you can also try restarting the Teams application. To restart the Teams application:
-
Right-click the Teams icon in the bottom-right area of your taskbar (similar to method 2 above) then click on 'Quit'.
- After a few seconds, click on the Teams icon again on your taskbar to re-launch Teams.
Uninstalling and Re-Installing Teams
If signing out and signing back in, and restarting Microsoft Teams does not help, try uninstalling and re-installing Microsoft Teams. To uninstall and re-install Microsoft Teams:
-
In the search bar of your taskbar, type in 'Control Panel' and open the 'Control Panel' app.
-
In the Control Panel window, click on 'Programs and Features'. If you don't see 'Programs and Features', change the 'View by' in the top-right of the window from 'Category' to 'Large icons'.
- In the 'Programs and Features' window, you will see a list of all the applications that are installed on your computer. Look for 'Microsoft Teams' and select it then click on 'Uninstall' above.
-
Teams will now begin to uninstall and it make take a couple of minutes to completely uninstall. To check to see if Teams has been uninstalled, click on the Refresh button near the top of the window.
Once Teams has been uninstalled, navigate to this link to download Microsoft Teams (do not download the Windows 11 version): https://www.microsoft.com/en-ca/microsoft-teams/download-app#desktopAppDownloadregion. Once the Teams installer file is finished downloading, click on it to start the installation process. It may take a couple of minutes as well for Teams to install but you will know it is finished when the Teams application opens automatically.
