Generating Secure Passwords with Lastpass
LastPass can be used to generate secure passwords for any websites or applications that you may use that require a login. For example, you have an account for Adobe that you need to create a password for. Rather than using the same password for Adobe and your computer/Office 365 account, you can have LastPass generate a secure password for you and then have it saved in LastPass so you don't have to remember it.
To generate a secure password:
- Login to LastPass (if you are not already signed in) then click on the LastPass icon then click on 'Generate Secure Password'.
- You will now see a password that was generated by LastPass along with options you can modify. This is where you will copy the password that LastPass gives you and into the 'Password' field of the account you are trying to create. You can also change the options here for the password the LastPass generates such as the Password length and what kind of characters you want in the password.
Example Scenario:
For example, if you are making an account for Twitter, you would follow the normal account creation process, but once you get to the part where you create a password, you will copy the password the LastPass gives you into the 'Password' field in the sign-up page. Once you are finished with the account creation process LastPass will then prompt you to 'Add' your newly created account into LastPass.
Once you have added it to LastPass, the next time you try to login to that website (Twitter in this example), it will automatically enter in the username and password for you in the website's login page so now you have an account with a secure password that you do not have to remember.
